Sick Like That is the second book in a new series (the first book is The Last Gig) featuring private eye Alessandra Martillo. The basic premise of the series is not new--Alessandra is an emotionally damaged young woman, highly skilled in physical combat and self defense/5(6).

There are two main plot-lines happening throughout Sick Like That. First, the women are hired by a dying widow to locate her stepson so she can, presumably, pass on her fortune to him. Sarah takes on the bulk of this case, even though previously she had only been stuck at a desk doing administrative work before Marty got shot/5.

In the New Testament, Jesus healed “every disease and every sickness,” as well as plagues in the areas He visited (Matthew ; ; Mark ). Just as God chose to use plagues and disease to show His power to the Israelites, Jesus healed as an exhibition of the same power to verify that He was truly the Son of God.
